A telesales consultant is responsible for selling products or services to customers over the phone on behalf of a business. Their role is to attract new and existing customers to purchase from the business, as well as to inform them about deals and discounts to maintain long term customer retention.
A telesales consultant needs to be charismatic and friendly, always providing excellent customer service and going above and beyond for any prospects that they speak to. They must also be patient, and alter their sales pitch depending on the needs of the customer. Their aim is to turn leads into repeat customers, as well as to increase overall reach and brand awareness.

A formal tertiary education is not usually required for this role, however some organisations may require candidates to hold a qualification in business, customer engagement or business sales. Relevant training and on-the-job experience is most important and favourable when applying for this role. There are some common skills required for this position.
It is essential that a telesales consultant has extensive sales skills and experience. They must be able to identify sales cues over the phone, as well as enjoy working towards meeting sales targets and achieving challenges. They must also be able to confidently question prospects to understand their needs and tailor solution benefits that are relevant to them.
Telesales consultants must also have strong communication skills. They must be able to clearly and concisely communicate over the phone with customers, as well as listen to their needs before they speak. They must also tailor their communication style to the audience or recipient in order to get the best result.
