A warehouse order selector is responsible for collecting the products for customer orders in a warehouse/distribution facility and then sending the orders to the shipping department to be packaged and shipped out to customers. They must have extremely good attention to detail skills, to ensure that they collect the right product at the right quantity based on what the customer has ordered and purchased.

Warehouse order selectors may hold a tertiary qualification in logistics, or supply chain management. A formal qualification is not always required, however relevant industry experience is often favourable. There are some common skills required for this position.

It is important that candidates understand all of the requirements of the role. They must understand the physical nature of the job, including unpacking inventory, packing orders, loading trucks and shrink wrapping. They must also have a minimum physical fitness that enables them to safely be on their feet for 8+ hours a day, performing physically demanding tasks.

It is vital that a warehouse order selector has excellent attention to detail skills. They must be meticulous to ensure that every order is packed correctly, and be comfortable with completing the repetitive tasks involved in the role in each shift. They must also have the ability to quickly decipher numbers and orders, and conduct multiple inspections on each order to ensure it is correct.

A warehouse order selector must prioritise safety in each of their shifts. They must maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times, and always ensure to report any near misses and incidents that may occur. They must have a positive attitude towards safety, and remind other colleagues to implement safety procedures into their daily work routine also.
